I love my Gameboy SP. The convenience of taking your gaming on the go is a real kick. I’ve seen lots of parents keeping their kids entertained at the store and it helps me pass the time at the doctor’s office. The great thing about the SP is that it has given new life to some old school classics.
Case in point… Donkey Kong Country for the GBA. An amusing and somewhat challenging platformer that has been revamped from its debut back during the heyday of the SNES.
The concept is pretty straightforward. Donkey Kong and his sidekick Diddy race through a host of unique levels. On the way they battle various enemies and collect lots of yummy bananas. The occassional boss to battle and a handful of mini games round out a really great title. The music is upbeat and you can save your progress along the way.
The main drwaback is that you can’t always see the entire screen as it scrolls up and down. This can sometimes lead to some blind jumps and having to accomplish some level areas by repetition.
In the end if you are a big fan of platformers, from Sonic to Mario to Jak, pick up Donkey Kong Country. You’ll go ape over it !
