Sir Isaac Newton: World Will End In…

…2060. Recently discovered papers that were handwritten by Sir Isaac Newton, the 18th-century scientist and mathematician who is best known for his discovery of gravity, show he calculated the world to end 57 years from now, reports the British Broadcasting Corp. In a televised documentary on Newton, the BBC will show the handwritten document that a researcher found in the archives of Jerusalem’s Jewish National Library.

Newton based his calculations for the end of the world on a close reading of the Bible. Unbeknownst to many, Newton was an accomplished Christian theologian who wrote well over 1 million words on various Biblical subjects, reports The Associated Press. While many knew he had attempted to decode the date of the apocalypse from the Bible, it was not known Newton had actually decided on one.

“But until now it was not known that he ever wrote down a final figure,” Malcolm Neaum, producer of the BBC documentary “Newton: The Dark Heretic,” told Britain’s Daily Telegraph. “What has been coming out over the past 10 years is what an apocalyptic thinker Newton was. He spent something like 50 years and wrote 4,500 pages trying to predict when the end of the world was coming.” Sir Isaac Newton, who died in 1727, is credited as being the forefather of modern physics.
