American Idol Sucks the Life out of Michelle!

I had promised myself that I wasn’t going to talk about Idol this year because  week after week, everyone yelled at me – “Adam Lambert is awesome you #@” “I dare you imply Adam is gay…” and I haven’t felt the need since our new writer Hank has been doing a fantastic job with the official EM Idol Re-caps –  he doesn’t go off into incoherent rants and tangents like I do. But last night was so horrific that I just had to get my say in.  I thought last year’s crop of contestants were the worst in Idol History, but no, this bunch is. It’s a Karaoke train wreck week after week.  I thought the show could sink no lower than Paige Miles butchering of Phil Collins’ worst song ever – Against All Odds – how this song ever became a number one hit will forever remain a mystery. After this performance it became a race to the bottom. I don’t watch Idol until it gets down to the top 15 so I missed this magical, mythical Andy Garcia Straight Up moment the judges keep harping on, but I don’t get it, he’s awful. How did he make it this far?

Tim Urban is just goofy looking and bland, the judges were right he took a bland song and made it blander. Aaron Kelly is getting the judge pimp treatment where no matter what he does the judges will go gaga. I hate it when Simon starts telling people how to vote “there’s zero chance you are going home…” I don’t get the Crystal Bowersox craze, she’s alright I suppose but not the 2nd coming that Simon thinks she is. Her problem is she’s boring and has zero charisma.  I kind of liked Katie Stevens because she seemed to have a bit of fun with her song, and I really like Siobhan Magnus she’s really interesting but her gimmick of screaming at the end of every song is getting tired and I thought her version of Superstition was terrible, but at least she had fun, showed some charisma. Any other week I would say there would 0% chance that Paige Miles would stay, but given that there were some performances just as bad as hers, I’m looking at you Garcia, she could survive.  I haven’t checked out my favorite Idol site Votefortheworst.com this season, I’m curious to see he they are rooting for.

I like Miley Cyrus, her big weird mouth has me mesmerized, but she’s not a recording legend or music industry icon. Also all that gum chewing was irritating. The judges this year have been surprisingly good, they all have been giving good, serious comments. I’m finally getting the Ellen thing, I’m starting to love her – she charming, funny, but serious and knows her stuff. Unless the voters go crazy the top 3 this year is easy to predict – Siobhan Magnus, Crystal Bowersox (I don’t care what the judges think, unless she gets a personality transplant, no way will she make it to the top 2), and Michael Lynche because he’s this year’s Reuban and has been consistent throughout. I don’t see any of these people having a long post Idol career – maybe Siobhan.
