Project Greenlight Digital Studios (PGLDS) announced today the winner for their “Now Recording” contest which focused on independent directors creating a music video for chart-topping, Grammy®-nominated musicians Plain White T’s (“Hey There Delilah”, “Rhythm of Love”).

While PGLDS has hosted previous digital series contests for filmmakers and writers, this was their first time expanding their platform into music. Brittany Turner, Adaptive Studios’ Vice President of Digital, said: “We constantly seek new ways to create refreshing opportunities for filmmakers in our community, therefore collaborating with such a talented group of musicians as well as innovative emerging filmmakers at the same time was really exciting. With the help of Plain White T’s, this contest provided an opportunity to bridge the gap for independent filmmakers into music videos.”

In August, contestants were asked to send a minute long pitch to PGLDS explaining their idea. Six finalists then received $2,000 to create short concept videos based on their original pitch. The winning video was directed by Melanie D’Andrea. She will receive $3,000 in cash prizes and $25,000 to create a music video for the band’s newest single which is titled Land of the Living.

“My love for storytelling began when I was a little girl watching music videos and I feel so much is full circle at this moment,” added D’Andrea, who currently resides in Los Angeles. “I believe that the message behind Land of the Living is powerful and needed. I needed it – it is so easy to forget that you have the option to change your life. I am honored to tell the visual story for the Plain White T’s next song, a visual anthem to go after the life you want. I am excited to see what the fans think of the final product, and hope they will be inspired by its message.”

Tom Higgenson from Plain White T’s stated at the start of the contest: “The band and I are so thrilled to both inspire, and be inspired by, the amazing group of up-and-coming filmmakers in the Project Greenlight community! Making music videos is one of my favorite things we get to do as a band, and this is definitely the most exciting and unique approach we have ever taken!”
